Besides his extensive work on
auditory machine learning, David has also worked on building full audio systems. This work goes back to his years as a system engineer at Bose Research during which time he was granted a patent on feedback systems to minimize auditory distractions; and his recent patent was based on a hardware system designed to improve auditory attention tracking.
Some examples of applied work include emotionspeech (above), a wearable deep learning system created with Bernd Huber to detect emotion in the voice at low power;
grouploop, a webRTC audio feedback instrument; and
his Fulbright research adapting guitars for people with disabilities.
